So, the few that would ever have the audacity to check out this blog in the first place would never know the difference: but I’ve moved my website (to much greener pastures).
AWS (Amazon Web Services) cost me about $11 and some change to move there. It took many hours to get everything moved over and I won’t bore you with all of the details, but I might be the smartest man alive!
I think people forget that we have the ability to vote with our wallets. The change was because of HostMetro.com. What a great deal on the surface. $2.95/month for life with a free domain name – it was the cheapest web hosting I could find. And boy did I pay for it. When the constant site outages started, I was worried about not having the site up when it needed to be up: but the support tickets all felt like they were my fault. “Third party plugins and sites usually only check for HTTP services and sometimes if certain trackers hit our servers too much our firewall will block those hits because they spam the server and may cause an inconsistency.”
So it’s my fault that the site is down. Too many people (1 every minute or so) accessing a site is the problem – the firewall is protecting me. Heh.
After several months, I was getting upset. And then they asked for me to renew my hosting with them. A hilarious proposition.
So now I’m happier with everything working and blazing fast. In about a year, I’ll have to probably search again for another solution (I’m essentially getting free hosting), but in the meantime – I feel like I made HostMetro a little better by telling them why I left.
